Awake, O Sleeper
It was early that morning (around 3 a.m.) that I found myself tossing and turning, unable to sleep. I kept hearing what sounded like knocking. Eventually, I sat up and went downstairs to answer the door and found no one there. So, I went back upstairs and attempted to go back to sleep, when I heard it again - the knocking sound. Only this time, it grew louder. At this point, I was completely awake. As I began to sit up, this scripture came to mind, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20, NKJV. So, I asked, “Lord, is it you?” And in my heart I heard Him say with urgency, “Yes, it’s Me. Come and talk with Me. Spend time with Me. Learn of Me. I’m coming soon!” Immediately I responded, “Yes, Lord, I’m here! I answer your call.” As soon as I responded I was overcome with His very presence and experienced His love in such a great and mighty way that day. He revealed His very heart.
In that moment, I was utterly thankful that I was obedient and responded to Him. That I awoke from my sleep and answered His call. As result, my life was completely changed. My focus had shifted. I now had a deeper and innate hunger for His presence.
Now, more than ever, I believe He is calling us to press in deeper - to really seek Him because time is short. Believe it or not, He is coming and it’s soon. He stands at the door and knocks. He waits. He calls. He beckons us to come. He stands with His arms wide open. When will we wake up and respond? Ephesians 5:14-17, MSG says, “Wake up from your sleep, Climb out of your coffins; Christ will show you the light! So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times! Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.” He wants to reveal Himself to us - He wants to reveal His very heart but we must get serious about seeking Him first above all else. “ ‘When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree.’ ” Jeremiah 29:13-14, MSG.
So, next time He calls, will you delay and sleep? Or wake up and respond? Time is precious, so use it wisely. Spend time seeking Him, you won’t be disappointed. He promised.
