The Harvest Is Plentiful: Answering the Call to Serve
In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, there exists a profound truth that transcends our circumstances: we are protected, called, and commissioned by a God who loves us with an everlasting love. The blood of Jesus Christ covers us on all sides, and when we truly grasp this reality, fear loses its grip on our lives.
Protected By The Blood
"I will not fear when the enemy comes near. On the doorframe of my life is the blood of Jesus Christ."
This isn't just poetic language—it's a declaration of spiritual reality. Just as the Israelites marked their doorframes with blood during the first Passover, protecting their households from destruction, we are covered by something far greater: the precious blood of our Savior. An army of angels surrounds us. The enemy, despite his schemes and attacks, has no authority over those who belong to Christ.
When we declare this truth over our lives and families, we're not wishfully thinking or engaging in positive self-talk. We're standing on the solid foundation of God's Word, reminding ourselves and the spiritual realm that we are under divine protection.

The Character of Christ: Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say
What does it truly mean to be a Christian in today's world? This question has become increasingly complex as society dilutes the term, equating it with mere goodness or spirituality rather than a radical commitment to Jesus Christ.
Being a Christian isn't about adding a modifier to your identity or blending faith with cultural trends. It's about reflecting the character of Christ in everything you do. Your words, actions, clothing, and interactions all communicate something about who you serve. Whether you're at the grocery store, your workplace, or walking through a mall, you're preaching—not necessarily with words, but with your life.
Consider the weight of your name and identity. Every time someone speaks your name, are they unknowingly declaring something about God? When we live with this awareness, our entire perspective shifts. We're no longer casual believers but ambassadors of the Most High God.

Seven Characteristics of Kingdom Living
True followers of Christ exhibit certain unmistakable characteristics:
- Devotion to God's Word - You cannot share what you don't know. Growing in knowledge and understanding of Scripture isn't optional; it's essential. How can you bring others into the family of God if you haven't spent time with the Father yourself?
- A Life of Prayer - Prayer isn't a religious ritual; it's intimate conversation with the One who created you. It's how we align ourselves with God's purposes and receive the strength to face each day.
- Unashamed Declaration of Faith - Whether through communion, baptism, or simply sharing your testimony, you must be willing to publicly identify with Christ. Your faith should never be a secret.
- Mercy and Sacrifice - Like the Good Samaritan, we're called to serve others regardless of convenience or cost. Compassion should mark our interactions with a hurting world.
- Fellowship with Believers - We were never meant to walk this journey alone. When the week gets tough, you need brothers and sisters in Christ to call, pray with, and receive godly counsel from.
- Worship in Spirit and Truth - As we worship God authentically, we're transformed from the inside out. Things you once loved may lose their appeal as you're sanctified in Christ.
- Evangelism - Sharing the gospel isn't reserved for those with titles or platforms. You will encounter people that others may never meet. Your unique sphere of influence is your mission field.
The Plentiful Harvest and the Need for Workers
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send workers into the harvest field." (Matthew 9:37-38)
This ancient truth remains urgently relevant today. All around us are people who are "harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." They're searching for meaning, struggling with pain, and desperately needing the hope that only Jesus provides.
The harvest metaphor is rich with significance. In agricultural societies, harvest time was critical—the culmination of months of labor, requiring urgent action before the crop spoiled. Similarly, there's an urgency to the spiritual harvest. People are ready to receive the gospel, prepared to repent and enter relationship with God, but they need workers.
And here's the challenging truth: the workers are few.
Not because there aren't enough people, but because there aren't enough laborers—those willing to actively engage in the mission. The work of the kingdom isn't limited to pastors, missionaries, or church leaders. It's the responsibility of every follower of Christ.

Endurance for the Sake of the Cross
Ministry—whether formal or informal—requires endurance. Consider Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, riding on a young, unsaddled donkey. The crowds expected a conquering king arriving in military glory, but instead, He came in humility, bringing peace.
This image holds profound lessons for anyone answering God's call:
The cross you carry isn't for glory or prestige—it's to bring peace when all hell is breaking loose. You enter a world at war, but you come bearing the ministry of reconciliation.
You don't need endurance for easy things—If the calling were simple, anyone could do it. But this requires a lifetime of preparation, continuous learning, and unwavering commitment.
Keep your focus on the cross, not the crowd—People will praise you ("Hosanna!") one moment and criticize you the next. Some will try to push you beyond your calling. Stay sensitive to God's voice above all others.
Humility is essential—Without God, you are nothing. This isn't self-deprecation; it's honest recognition of your complete dependence on divine strength.

No Flesh Shall Glory
"That no flesh should glory in His presence." (1 Corinthians 1:29)
Regardless of your education, job title, financial status, or natural abilities, none of these things matter except as tools God can use for His purposes. Our boast is in Jesus Christ alone. He chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, the weak things to shame the strong.
This levels the playing field entirely. You may feel inadequate, unqualified, or ill-equipped for what God is calling you to do. Good. That means you're in the perfect position to see Him work powerfully through your weakness.

A Call To Action
The world today desperately needs believers who will step into their calling—not someday, but now. People in your community are hurting, searching, and needing prayer, guidance, and help. That homeless person you pass, that stressed parent in the supermarket, that coworker carrying invisible burdens—these are divine appointments waiting to happen.
Will you ask God for boldness to speak? Will you commit to serving even when it's inconvenient? Will you endure for the sake of the cross?
The harvest truly is plentiful. The question isn't whether there's work to be done, but whether you'll join the laborers in the field. Your life isn't random. God is inviting you into something bigger than your comfort or survival.
The calling rarely feels clear at the beginning. It unfolds as you take steps you're not fully confident about. It grows as you say yes before you feel brave.
Following Jesus doesn't remove fear—it teaches you how to walk forward while still feeling it.
So walk forward. The King has already won the victory. You're simply joining the celebration and inviting others to the feast.
